Hi there -- and welcome to a breath of fresh sarah!
I'm Sarah, and this is my collection of travel recaps where I plan to share information about trips I have taken, including general commentary, specific recommendations, photos, and useful links I myself have used to help plan the trip. I hope you find it helpful and interesting!
There are a few reasons I wanted to take the plunge and start this project.
I haven't visited as many countries as other people have, nor have I planned elaborate itineraries, devised a complicated credit card "churning system," or even taken the best photographs. To be honest, I hadn't really traveled much in my life until the last few years, for a variety of reasons -- from concern about cost to finding the planning process overwhelming or intimidating.
But once I got started, I was hooked. I love the energy and excitement of travel, and every trip reminds me how beautiful our world is. I look forward not just to taking trips but also planning them, and something I've found helpful and enjoyable during the planning process is reading about others' trips on online travel blogs. As I pored over one travel guide in advance of a trip to Yosemite National Park in July 2021, I got the urge to create my own guide; at this point, I know what kind of information I find helpful (and what I don't), and I wanted to help others see that planning trips doesn't have to be overwhelming or difficult.
Furthermore, I've been in a bit of a rut lately when it comes to writing. I've always been drawn to words, in the form of both reading and writing, leading me to political commentary. But lately I haven't had the time, or creativity, or urge to find words as easily as I used to. So I'm hoping this project will rejuvenate my love for language. And in at least one way, it already has, just by brainstorming what to name this collection of travel recaps. After dismissing "Smiles on a Map" and "Sarah Plane and All" (yeah, that was probably my weakest one), I selected a breath of fresh sarah because that's what travel is -- it's a breath of fresh air, it's an escape from daily life, it's an opportunity to experience something new. (And I just love a good play on words.)
