about

I'm Sarah, and welcome to my collection of travel diaries!

As I explained in my first ever post, I started this website for several reasons.

  • I hadn't really traveled very much until I was ~29 (I'm 35 now), so I'm trying to make up for it now, and so I've come to love reading others' travel guides (sometimes I look at them just for fun, rather than for planning purposes!).
  • I always plan my own trips and have never used an agent or other professional services, so I wanted to gather all the information I've found or discovered first-hand into one place to help others plan trips, and my hope is that in doing so, it highlights that planning trips doesn't have to be overwhelming or difficult.
  • And I've always loved words and writing, so this seemed like a good creative project.

Although I may not have traveled much when I was younger, I did move around frequently, and as a result, I've gotten to truly experience and appreciate America's diversity; one of the things I love most about our country is its geographic diversity and multiculturalism. One of my travel goals now is to visit all 50 states in the United States, to see the beauty in every state.

I seem to keep ending up in Virginia, which is where I now live and work at a non-profit on behalf of free speech and peace, dedicated to protecting First Amendment rights and encouraging collaboration and civil discourse. I'm a conservative and a feminist, and I often write about current events and politics, so if that also interests you, you can read my thoughts in various publications and on Twitter.

Some (hopefully!) interesting facts about me to help you get to know me:

  • I played Division 1 college soccer and love field hockey, running, and swimming.
  • I appeared in Taylor Swift's music video for "New Romantics" for .38 seconds.
  • Two of my favorite television shows are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Boy Meets World.
  • I have no musical talent whatsoever -- can't sing, can't dance, can't understand rhythm -- and it's one of my greatest laments.
  • I don't drink coffee, but Chick-fil-A's cookies-and-cream milkshakes are my favorite dessert.

Thanks for being here -- and I hope that my travel diaries will be helpful for you in planning your own trips or figuring out whether you want to visit a certain city or take a certain cruise!
